Nancy Chambers has spent her life working and playing in the outdoors. She is passionate about all the sports she does. She is one of the few women to gain the following higher level outdoor qualifications; Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (WMCI), International Mountain Leader (IML), Level 5 Canoe coach, Senior Sailing Instructor and a number of others at a lower level, including BASI Level 2 Ski Instructor.
Her career in the outdoors started at Port Edgar Sailing School and Strathclyde Regional Centre, Ardentinny towards the end of the 1980’s and has since led her all over the world. Including 15 years working at Glenmore Lodge National Outdoor Centre, where for 11 of those years she was the only permanent female instructor.
Nancy now continues to work in the outdoors on a freelance basis, but has diversified the rest of her work to fit around her family. She now works part time as a charity manager with a small environmental charity (www.cairngormstrust.org.uk) operating in the Cairngorms National Park. In her spare time Nancy is also a children’s author specialising in adventures in the outdoors, a guidebook writer and photographer.
She and her husband have two energetic boys who have fallen completely in love with all the outdoor activities that they are exposed to by their parents. The boys are going on many adventures with their parents and are growing up to be talented outdoor people themselves.
Nancy is an avid encourager to enabling women for success and having the confidence to play and coach in the outdoors and whilst not at the forefront herself all the time now has a huge range of knowledge and experience that she uses when chatting to folks about coaching, leadership, motherhood and adventuring in the outdoors.
